King Sunny Ade was not just a musician. Here are things to know about him:
1. Grammy Nominations: His album Synchro System gave him a Grammy nomination; later Odu (1998) earned him another. He is reputed to be the first Nigerian artist to be nominated for a Grammy twice.

2. King Sunny Adé Foundation: He established a foundation to support performing arts, record youths, provide studios, housing for young musicians, and assist older or needy musicians.

3. Lecturer/Academia: He has been a visiting lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile‐Ife. 4. In 2008, he was honoured at the International Reggae and World Music Awards in New York for outstanding contribution to world music.
