King Sunny Ade Clocks 79 Today!

All hail King Sunny Ade, the king of African beat and grooves as he clocks 79 today!
Born a Prince in Osogbo, Osun State, on September 22,1946 and named Sunday Adeniyi Adegeye. His father, Samuel Adeniyi Adegeye, was a church organist; his mother, Maria Adegeye, was a trader. His maternal lineage is part of the Adesida dynasty of Akure.
He joined Moses Olaiya’s Federal Rhythm Dandies, a highlife band, as he begins his career early in life.
In 1967, at 21, he formed his own band - The Green Spots, which later evolved into The African Beats. Although he began with highlife, he later on focused on juju music, where he with time incorporated western instruments/techniques.
Because of unique dexterity on the guitars, he is known as master guitarist. King Sunny Ade is a charismatic live performer, energetic on stage, he can dance and weather the weary storm of long stage performances.
King Sunny Ade is considered one of the first African pop musicians to achieve global success.
