Makinde Presents Staff of Office to Oba Rashidi Ladoja as 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Friday officially presented the Staff of Office to His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. The historic coronation ceremony took place at the iconic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, drawing dignitaries, traditional rulers, political leaders, and residents from across Nigeria.
The governor, who cut short his annual leave to personally attend the epoch-making event, described Oba Ladoja’s ascension as a new dawn for Ibadanland. He said the installation of the former governor of Oyo State as the Olubadan was not only historic but also symbolic of the unity, resilience, and cultural pride of the Yoruba people.
In his address, Makinde reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to preserving and promoting Yoruba tradition and values. “Today, we are not just installing a king; we are celebrating the continuity of one of the most respected and enduring traditional institutions in Africa. Oba Rashidi Ladoja is a leader with deep knowledge, experience, and wisdom. His reign will further strengthen the heritage of Ibadanland and contribute to the growth of Oyo State,” he said.
The coronation of Oba Ladoja followed the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who joined his ancestors on Monday, July 7, 2025. Oba Ladoja, who had been the Olubadan-designate since then, formally assumed the revered throne after fulfilling all traditional rites and customs.
